We are interested in a team member who is innovative, detail oriented and passionate about doing program development and fundraising, organizing, and policy work in a civil rights and social justice organization. At EQCA, we are committed to carrying out these two aspects of our work in ways that are integrated and creates impact in the LGBT civil rights movement.
The Program and Program Development Director will be supervised by the Executive Director and will work collaboratively with senior leadership to develop, implement, and coordinate new programs initiatives for Equality California and Equality California Institute. Candidates should have at least 5 years of public policy analysis and advocacy, management and implementation of funding proposals to support programs in the LGBT civil rights and/or social justice movements.
EQCA is a fast paced and collaborative environment and, as such, candidates must be able to multi-task, prioritize, problem solve, supervise staff, and assist with raising programmatic funding for the organization.
Program Development Director Equality California
Equality California (EQCA) is the premier statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization focused on creating a fair and just society. Our mission is to achieve and maintain full and lasting equality, acceptance, and social justice for all people in our diverse LGBT communities, inside and outside of California. Our mission includes advancing the health and well-being of LGBT Californians through direct healthcare service advocacy and education.
Through electoral, advocacy, education and mobilization programs, we strive to create a broad and diverse alliance of LGBT people, educators, government officials, communities of color and faith, labor, business, and social justice communities to achieve our goals.
Major Program and Program Development Responsibilities Include:
- Understanding fundraising strategies, proposal development, program budgeting, and reporting for EQCA and EQCA Institute.
- Moving EQCA into a more public and visible role through our movement building and program development work.
- Cultivating new and existing relationships with policy makers, movement leaders, and funders in partnership with the Executive Director and Chief of Staff.
- Developing and implementing program strategies for the organization that allows EQCA and EQCAI’s programs to become more integrated and impactful within the LGBT civil rights and social justice arena.
- Implementing systems that measure EQCA and EQCAI’s programmatic impact.
- Supervising the programs and program implementation, reporting, and staff.
Required Skills and Experience:
- At least 5 years experience managing and implementing advocacy, outreach, public education, and mobilization programs; as well as, obtaining funding for, LGBT civil rights, and/or social justice movements.
- Demonstrated experience as an organizer, trainer, policy advocate and policy analyst for LGBT civil rights and/or social justice movements. Experience in health, immigration, schools, and/or faith-based work is a plus.
- Experience developing and seeking funds for proposals to support program work initiatives.
- Experience in education, mobilization, and outreach focused on educating legislative and public policy decision makers.
- Deep experience working within and across communities of color and at other intersections including (but not limited to) faith, class, gender, disability, sexuality, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
- Experience managing and supervising staff.
- Strong people and project management skills.
- An extensive record of developing, implementing, and leading impactful education and outreach efforts.
- High attention to detail and stands of excellence and consistency in follow through, relationship building, customer service, and supervision.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple and sometimes competing tasks in a fast-faced environment.
