The Program Manager is a critical member of the Greater Boston PFLAG Team, managing and helping facilitate the organization’s award-winning programs. This includes our Safe Schools and Communities Program, Workplace Support Program, Support Groups (currently 16 in total), Help Line, One-to-One Parent Support Network, and various new program initiatives.

The Program Manager will supervise all current programs, present and facilitate many of the community education programs, explore new opportunities, evaluate the programs and consider areas of improvement, maintain strong relationships with various community clients and supporters, and develop new partnerships.

The ideal candidate must be an experienced speaker and organizer who excels in facilitating nuanced and sometimes challenging conversations with enthusiasm, compassion, and a high level of awareness around the topics of sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, intersectionality, and social justice. The Program Manager must excel in customer service; personal counsel; possess the ability to work independently and as a team member/leader with volunteers and other professionals; exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills; have a high attention to detail; and have the ability to manage sensitive data.

The Program Manager must be able to work in a fast-paced office environment and oversee significant job responsibilities, including managing the ongoing details of many different programs and partnerships. The Program Manager should have strong interpersonal skills, excel in establishing and maintaining relationships, and be enthusiastic about expanding opportunities for LGBTQ programs and partnerships. While the majority of this position can be accomplished during regular business hours, several night and weekend commitments will also be required. A great deal of travel around Massachusetts is also required, therefore having a vehicle is also necessary. (Employees receive reimbursement for non-commuting/job-related travel.)

A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience is required. Bachelor’s degree also required, with a master’s degree in an education, counseling, social work, public health, or a related field preferred.

Greater Boston PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning People) exists in order to help LGBTQ individuals, their families, and communities around the topics of sexual orientation and gender identity. Through support, education, and advocacy, we foster dialogue and create safer environments by opening hearts and minds. Greater Boston PFLAG is currently seeking a full-time employee to serve as Program Manager.

Greater Boston PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of LGBT People)

Reports To: President, GBPFLAG

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Administration, Implementation & Evaluation

  • Responsible for oversight and/or delivery of all GBPFLAG programing, including outreach and evaluation.
  • Manages the Greater Boston PFLAG Speakers Bureau, including recruiting, training, and evaluating speakers, as well as maintaining and updating the Speaker’s Guide and reporting forms;
  • Serves as a facilitator and trainer at many of the program engagements;
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates recruitment strategies to expand the number of schools, workplaces, religious, and community organizations participating in the program;
  • Develops a program evaluation framework to assess the strengths of the programs and to identify areas for improvement;
  • Analyzes program trends, identifies issues, and develops and recommends solutions to the President and Program Committee;
  • Remains up-to-date on constituent needs as LGBTQ issues evolve;
  • Develops and delivers new program initiatives based on program evaluation data, direction from the GBPFLAG President, and identified community needs;
  • Compiles, maintains, and reports on monthly, quarterly and annual program statistics;
  • Identifies and form appropriate partnerships for the delivery of workshops and the program.
  • Works with Commission on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Youth and ally organizations to implement objectives aligned with strategic goals.
  • Manages the Elsie Frank Scholarship program.
  • Oversees general volunteer recruitment and training.

Outreach and Advocacy

  • Works with GBPFLAG President and Programs Support and Outreach Committee to ensure that advocacy actions are consistent with PFLAG National and GBPFLAG’s mission.
  • Coordinates advocacy actions, represents GBPFLAG publicly and speaks with the President for GBPFLAG at media and political events.

External Support

  • Provides GBPFLAG literature and related resources to individuals and organizations;
  • Provides limited advising/counsel;
  • Provides ongoing support and training to our parent/family support group facilitators and help line volunteers.

Representation and Organizational Partnerships

  • Works with the President to represent Greater Boston PFLAG in collaboration with other LGBTQ organizations.
  • Acts as a liaison with National PFLAG and other MA chapters outside of the Greater Boston Area.
  • Participates in community events/partnerships as deemed appropriate.

Fundraising and Development

  • Works with the President on developing the program portion of the annual budget.
  • Assists in identifying new funding sources and grant writing opportunities.
  • Collaborates with the President and Fundraising & Development Committee in identifying individual donor and corporate prospects for fundraising initiatives.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Directs, plans, and coordinates the work of the volunteers involved in program work including supervision and evaluation, training, and team building.
  • Ensures adequate and qualified volunteers are available to carry out the program activities.
  • Responsible for the implementation, management, supervision, and evaluation of all activities of the program.
  • Responsible for the supervision and management of program-related records.
  • Compile, maintain, and report to the President and Board of Directors on the monthly, quarterly, and annual program statistics.
  • Responsible for ensuring skills development workshops for volunteer speakers.
  • Identify and form partnerships to enhance and increase the number of programs offered by the organization where appropriate.
  • Supervise office interns and volunteers.
  • Serve as a secondary check-signer as a back-up to the President.

Plan the delivery of the overall program and its activities in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization

  • Develop new initiatives to support the strategic direction of the organization
  • Develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of the program
  • Develop funding proposals for the program to ensure the continuous delivery of services

The Program Manager is responsible for supporting the Program Committee and other committees as assigned.

The Program Manager will participate in community events/partnerships deemed appropriate.

The Program Manager must be available on various nights and weekends in order to attend programs, support groups, board meetings, and special events for Greater Boston PFLAG and ally organizations.

In relation to national PFLAG: When appropriate opportunities arise, the Program Manager will participate in national and regional committees. The Program Manager will attend regional meetings and workshops when budget allows.
