Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) – Boston, MA
GLAD’s Public Affairs and Education Department aids GLAD’s legal work and the extension of LGBT legal rights through education, outreach, and media relations. As the central administrative support for the department, the Public Affairs Assistant will report to the director, but will regularly work with every member of the department.

Qualifications
- College degree and/or two years administrative experience.
- Personable and professional manner.
- Excellent organizational abilities: setting priorities, meeting deadlines, managing work flow and paper flow, paying attention to detail; handling multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience with database management. Experience with design software a plus.
- Ability to work on a team, take initiative, follow through, and communicate questions, problems, project progress and completion.
- Experience working with diverse communities.
- Strong written communications.
- Knowledge of issues affecting the LGBT and HIV-positive communities a plus.
Responsibilities
Administrative
- Staff reception
- Interact with vendors such as printers, designers, advertising outlets, mailhouses, photographers
- Copying, faxing, filing, and data entry
- Handle processing of department’s invoices and credit card receipts
- Make travel arrangements, book rooms, handle meeting logistics.
- Other duties as assigned.
Media relations
- Track LGBT and GLAD press coverage
- Assist in the production of press materials
- Distribute press releases as needed
- Assist with logistics of press conferences
Education & Outreach
- Assist with administrative tasks in the organizing of events
- Assist with production of marketing materials
Electronic Communications
- Assist in preparation of electronic newsletter
- Assist in preparation and writing of email communications
- Organize and maintain GLAD’s collection of electronic images
- Update GLAD’s social network pages on request
