The Recruitment and Outreach Specialist will develop and implement marketing, communication and recruitment plans that reflect the Fenway Institute’s research needs with an ultimate goal of community education, participant recruitment, interdepartmental collaboration and research promotion.
Typical duties include: identifying and conducting outreach and education in community spaces where recruitment, research and services can effectively be promoted; establishing and maintaining positive relationships with community stakeholders; developing and implementing digital marketing and social media recruitment strategies that reflect institute research needs; and collaborating interdepartmentally on community outreach and educational efforts.
Additional responsibilities include: assisting in navigation of participants through initial stages of research participation process, by conducting protocol specific prescreening activities; tracking and regularly presenting progress, process improvements and challenges in recruitment meetings; assisting in retention efforts for enrolled participants; supporting participants with navigation in the health care and social service systems, and working with clients and organizations to get them access to appropriate care/services. This position will be the lead recruiter for a home-based HIV testing study targeting men who have sex with men and transgender women.

The Fenway Institute is the nation’s leading center for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender research and evaluation, training and education and policy and advocacy. The Institute conducts a wide range of studies on such topics as HIV risk reduction and prevention, drug treatment trials efficacy, substance abuse recovery and hepatitis transmission. Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field requiredPrevious recruitment, community education or outreach experience highly desired
- Demonstrated cultural competency in relation to LGBTQ communities
- Experience working with ethnically and racially diverse communities
- Experience working with HIV/AIDS education and/or service organizations
- Excellent written and verbal skills, and ability to meet deadlines within a team environment
- Experience conducting presentations in a variety of contexts
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
- Experience working with an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse work staff preferred
- Ability to work independently and with a team; a self-starter personality is required
- Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals required
