Whenever I approach a music review, I tend to firstly think of who the singer reminds me of... that proved difficult with Scarlette Fever. There’s something of the Alanis Morissette about her new EP, a smidgeon of Tori Amos too. Her lyrics have some thought to them, not the usual bubble gum chart fodder, her sound is both brash and polished.

Produced by the genius behind Neneh Cherrys latest, and Amy Winehouse, Groove Armada and
Massive Attack, this EP marks something of a change of direction for Scarlette, but the subject
matter of the title track is that well worn and familiar theme of love, lust and all the stuff in-between!
As Scarlette says, it's about finally understanding what all the fuss, that Shakespeare made, was
about.
Scarlette has had several releases, and has spent 2014 so far touring and writing. And she
doesn't shy away from remixing her work either, having recently worked with Rudedog, 7th Heaven
and Jason Nevins amongst others.
She's earned her place with the tours she's done, supporting Lisa Stansfield and Caro Emerald
amongst others, and god knows it makes a refreshing change to hear someone who can sing,
actually sing without the help of any electronics!
It’s also encouraging to listen to someone new that hasn't had a the “helping hand” of a talent
show, hasn't been plastered over our screens for weeks on end and had their private lives
scrutinised by the tabloids. Scarlette is who she is, no if’s, buts or maybes - she's one hell of a
talent, and you’ll hear much more of her.
She also does her fair share of good work too! Scarlette is now an ambassador for Fresh2o,
taking her place alongside Will Smith, Janet jackson and Lily Cole, amongst others, using their
mission to reduce poverty, improve health by ensuring clean water is available for drinking and
sanitation across the globe.
Her EP comes out 21st September and will be available on iTunes and other platforms.
She is also playing live at Hoxton Bar & Grill on 9th September so go see her if you can
