San Diego Pride 2015
Formed in 1974 as a sponsored program of The Center for Social Services, we produced the first Lesbian and Gay Parade in San Diego to celebrate the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion on New York’s Christopher Street. San Diego Pride incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 1994, and today it continues to bring together the skills, talents and vision of our diverse community through numerous programs.
San Diego Pride raises funds primarily through Music Festival ticket and beverage sales, sponsorships and exhibitor fees. This supports San Diego Pride’s community philanthropy which has distributed more than $2 million in advancement of its mission to foster pride in and respect for all LGBT people locally, nationally, and globally.

It All Began…
In the 1970s, when gay men in San Diego founded a Center for Social Services in a house at 2250 B Street. The Center became a social and political focus for the gay community. In June 1974 the Center hosted a gay pride event which included a yard sale and potluck dinner at the Center as well as an informal parade to Balboa Park and back. Marchers had to walk on the sidewalk since they had no city parade permit. In 1975 the community was able to secure permits for a rally and a 400-person march.[5] The parade has been held every year since.[5]
In 1991 the event was moved from June to July. In 1993 the parade was moved to its current route from Hillcrest along University Avenue and 6th Avenue to Balboa Park.[5]
