This weekend, thousands will decend on Swindon to celebrate Pride 2014

by Newsdesk | 4th August 2014

Below are all the details for this year's pride event, to take place on Saturday the 7th August.

'We are really pleased to announce that, following a hard year of, fundraising, planning and organising next week see’s Swindon & Wiltshire 7th Annual Pride being held in the Old Town Gardens, Swindon.

The Pride Parade sets off from Springfield Road at 11.15am and will be travelling around Old Town before turning back into Quarry road from Bath Road and we are looking forward to seeing all those who will be waving, cheering and supporting the 2014 Equality for All Parade. Don’t forget your whistles and flags to help bring a spring in the step to all those walking the route.

This year Swindon & Wiltshire Pride sees a fabulously diverse blend of talented acts from 1.30pm on Thames Water Stage, and from midday on the Stephen G Sloan Stage.

Later on in the day Marcus Collins will be headlining the Thames Water Stage and if you want ‘front row’ position to see him performing we recommend getting in early.

Swindon & Wiltshire Pride 2014 welcomes 2 great new zones:

Art Zone: which is being run by ‘No Added Sugar’ where you, can try your hand at Painting, Clay and Felting.

Sports Zone: will have displays on hourly; from the local GW dance Academy and Swindon Supermarine Ladies Rugby Club to name a few. You can come along and take part or, for those less energetic, you can just watch.

The Family Zone is returning in collaboration with Party Angels, with lots of fun activities to take part in but we do ask that children are accompanied by an adult whilst they are in the Family Zone.

Don’t miss the hustle and bustle of the stalls area, as this year we have more stalls than we have ever had at Swindon & Wiltshire Pride. Bringing a fabulous mixture of community and shopping stalls for you to enjoy.

We are very pleased to announce that next weekend Wiltshire Police will be showing their support for Swindon & Wiltshire Pride, by ‘Flying the Flag for Pride’. The rainbow flag adorned with the Wiltshire Police Crest will fly proudly at Police Headquarters in Devizes and Gablecross Police Station in Swindon.

Wiltshire Police, Unison, and The Police Federation are working closely together this year to show full support for equality for all. With a zero tolerance approach to any form of discrimination all three organisations are happy to publicly show this.

Jo Sharpe, Chair of Swindon & Wiltshire Pride 2014 stated, I’d like to thank Unison LGBT Officers PSCO Lee Hare and Kate Jackson-Collier, for their involvement and support for this year’s event. We are all very proud that Wiltshire Police are showing such visual support outside the event and appreciate the efforts they make and the personal time they give to Swindon & Wiltshire Pride each year'.
