EqualityToledo works for equality for all Ohioans regardless of their marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression through education, anti-defamation efforts, and activism.
History
As a response to the passage of Ohio’s Issue 1 amendment in November 2004, which created a constitutional amendment defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman, Equality Toledo was formed. The founding members were actively involved in opposing Issue 1 and educating our communities about the harmful consequences of its passage.
Today, members of the community can look for EqualityToledo to become more visible through various communication methods and increased events with Safe Schools, Equality @ Work, and Faith & Fairness programs.
EqualityToledo’s future will include continuing to fight for civil rights and advocacy to ensure LGBT equality, exploring more of what Northwest Ohio has to offer for the LGBT community and expanding the organization.
Community Involvement

The Pride of Toledo Foundation was established in 2011 as a registered 501(c)(4) non-profit as the primary host of Toledo Pride- an annual area celebration of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and allied (LGBTQA) community. Last year, the Pride of Toledo Foundation along with many other area sponsors welcomed over 10,000 pride participants who took part in Toledo Pride 2012.
In 2013, Pride of Toledo hosted Opera Ain’t No Drag in coordination with Toledo Opera to bring together the local LGBT and arts communities. Over 350 people filled the Collingwood Arts Center for a fantastic night of live opera, drag queens and kings.
In the coming years, as the Pride of Toledo Foundation continues to grow, thanks to the support of our community, we aim to financially aid area events, organizations, programs and businesses that support the LGBTQA community. For more information, please contact info@toledopride.com.
