Overnight closures will be in place at the A1 near Elkesley this weekend (Friday 28 to Sunday 30 November) as work on the Elkesley junction improvement scheme continues.
The closures are necessary to safely lift an overbridge beam into position over the road and have been planned overnight to minimise disruption to road users.
There will be a lane 2 closure in place on the A1 northbound from its off-slip road with the A46 junction at Newark to the northbound on-slip road at Apleyhead from 10pm to 6am on Friday 28 November. A full closure will be in place on the same stretch of road between 7pm and 11am from Saturday 29 November to Sunday 30 November. On Sunday night (30 November) a full closure will be in place again from 4pm until 6am on Monday 1 December.
The A1 southbound between the off-slip road at Apleyhead to the southbound on-slip road at Twyford Bridge will be fully closed on Friday 28 November frm 7pm to 11am the following day. On Saturday 29 November the closure will be in place again between 11pm to 4.30am on Sunday 30 November and on Sunday (20 November) from 7.30pm to 12.30am on Monday 1 December.
Graham Littlechild, project sponsor for the scheme, said, 'The work we’re undertaking during the necessary closures is the next step of this important scheme to improve safety at the busy junction and enhance connectivity across the village.
'During the closures, diversions will be in place and I urge road users to plan their journeys leaving extra time, particularly in case of extended closures becoming necessary due to the nature of the work.
'Once the scheme is completed motorists can expect safer and better journey.'
During the southbound closure traffic will be diverted to the A614 Blyth Road, A616 Ollerton Road, Back Lane, Wellow Road, Newark Road, Ollerton Road, Great North Road and then the A46 to re-join the A1. The diversion for the northbound closure will be the same but reversed.
All diversions will be clearly signed in advance of any closures.
