Fenway Health is hiring a Victim Counselor/ Advocate for our Violence Recovery Program serving LGBT survivors of violence and abuse.

Fenway Health is a comprehensive community health center, providing a wide continuum of health care services. We are New England‘s leading primary care health center for the lesbian and gay community, and in addition we provide health care to residents of Boston’s Fenway neighborhood.

The following position is available in Fenway Health’s Behavioral Health Department:

Victim Counselor / Advocate – Violence Recovery Program [Job ID #403]

The Victim Counselor/Advocate provides counseling and advocacy services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) victims/survivors of hate crimes, domestic violence, sexual assault, and police misconduct.

Typical duties include: providing telephone and in-person intake, screening and assessment of new cases; providing individual and group counseling for clients; informing clients of rights, options, and available services; and working with criminal justice agencies to make them more accessible to LGBT crime victims and advocating for needed follow-up services.

Additional duties include: coordinating service plans for clients, including consulting with other agency departments; assisting clients in accessing the criminal justice system, and securing counseling and social services; providing outreach, training and education to community groups and professional agencies about LGBT violence issues; and preparing reports and statistics as needed.

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology
  • Clinical/counseling experience required
  • Knowledge and experience with LGBT and domestic violence issues preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with legal/criminal justice advocacy preferred
  • Strong writing and public speaking skills
  • Bilingual Spanish/ English a plus
  • Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals
  • Experience working in an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse environment preferred
