Welcoming Schools Project Coordinator

The Welcoming Schools Coordinator is primarily responsible for meeting the administrative needs and assigned programmatic duties for the Welcoming Schools project housed within HRC’s Children, Youth and Families program. This is a matrixed position, which enables flexibility in interacting and working across different departments. This project provides technical assistance, training and resources to elementary schools on embracing family diversity, creating gender-inclusive classrooms and ending bias-based bullying. The coordinator also provides administrative support for the Children, Youth and Families program.
Position Responsibilities
- Responding to requests for information, materials and assistance from Welcoming Schools staff and regional consultants
- Responding to requests for information, materials and assistance from Welcoming Schools participating schools and partner organizations
- Updating the Welcoming Schools website and blog
- Administering the Welcoming Schools monthly electronic newsletter and Facebook presence
- Maintaining the Welcoming Schools database to track trainings and activities conducted by staff and regional consultants
- Supervising the Welcoming Schools intern and leading the intern selection process for the program
- Maintaining up-to-date records of activities and accomplishments of the program and creating regular reports for staff, directors and board members
- Administering the program’s web pages and monthly electronic Family newsletter
- Managing the inventory and assembly of program publications and materials; ensuring requests from staff and external stakeholders are handled efficiently and appropriately
- Coordinating and supporting on- and off-site meetings and events involving project collaborators
- Performing administrative tasks (including accounting tasks), and other duties as assigned
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or one to three years relevant work experience in a professional environment.
- Candidate should possess a strong work ethic, be very self-motivated, and have the demonstrated ability to work independently
- Exceptional attention to accuracy and detail a must
- Outstanding organizational, task management and time management skills required
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and manage work under tight deadlines.
- Mastery of Microsoft Office software, experience with website editing software and database software are essential
- The candidate must be an able communicator, both verbally and in writing
- Experience with writing website and blog content and the capacity to produce a timely and informative newsletter is required. Experience utilizing social media accounts (Facebook) a plus
- Strong understanding of LGBT issues is expected. Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in education is a plus
