The story, which touched the hearts of millions of people around the world, has been made into a film, in which Shane Bitney Crone speaks about the cruelty he received from his late boyfriend’s family and the system that failed to recognise Bitney-Crone as a significant partner in Tom Bridegroom’s life. The film premiered on Oprah Winfrey’s network OWN.

On Sunday the 27th OWN, will present a night of specialised programming that will focus on being gay in the USA.

The film, which is due to receive a UK release via Netflix, has already won numerous awards and accolades.

The initial YouTube video was made to document Crone’s grief on the anniversary of his partner’s death.

Tom Bridegroom fell from a 4-storey rooftop to his death whilst taking photos of a friend in 2011.

Shane and Tom were in a committed, loving relationship for nearly six years. Shane was threatened with violence from Tom’s family if he attempted to attend the funeral.
