Robin Williams rose to fame in the 1970s during a TV series called Mork and Mindy which ran from 1978 to 1982. It wasn’t until Good Morning Vietman and Dead Poets Society that William’s cemented his name as one of the Hollywood greats.
He also found success playing gay characters, doing so twice, first in Birdcage and then again in 2014 in Boulevard.
The actor was found dead at his home in California. His spokeswoman Mara Buxbaum said in a statement: ‘Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.’
Williams’ wife Susan Schneider said, ‘I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken.’
The Coroner Division of Marin County suspects the death to be suicide by asphyxia, pending investigation.
Depression can be a hidden, lonely and destructive demon giving little regard for who it affects. It can hide deep inside you without affecting the face or outer appearance, deeming itself unrecognizable to most and because no one sees it, folk believe you’re alright. However, you don’t have to be alone. If you’re personally suffering from depression or know of someone who is then take a moment to contemplate asking for a little help. Many life factors can cause or inflate depression, bullying, self loathing, work stresses, exam stresses, family pressures to succeed…
