Lambda Legal seeks a Director of Databases and Direct Marketing to join their Development Department. Director of Databases and Direct Marketing
Responsibilities The Director of Databases and Direct Marketing will be primarily responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the organization’s integrated direct marketing fundraising plan (including planning, management, analysis and evaluation of all aspects of the direct marketing program) oriented toward the achievement of financial goals.
SUMMARY Utilizing direct mail, telemarketing, email/online, social media, street teams, mobile applications, and other innovative techniques; the Director of Databases and Integrated Direct Marketing is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the organization’s integrated direct marketing fundraising plan (including planning, management, analysis and evaluation of all aspects of the direct marketing program) oriented toward the achievement of financial goals. In this role, the Director will oversee the database team to ensure that both offline and online databases are kept up-to-date; donors-members are messaged appropriately; data integrity of incoming donations is maintained; installment, stock, matching gift and Web giving programs are managed effectively; plus other tasks as assigned. The Director will also collaborate closely with the Director of Foundation Giving, Education & Public Affairs (EPA) and Legal departments to ensure appropriate messaging to various audiences. The position will work closely with the member services team to ensure that receipts and acknowledgement letters for all gifts are sent out, payment problems are resolved, and in developing new, expanding existing member service programs, and providing communication touch points to all donors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. INTEGRATED DIRECT MARKETING CAMPAIGN- Oversee Direct Marketing Consultants
- With Direct Marketing Consultants, provide recommendations for strategic plan for direct marketing fundraising to meet financial goals.
- Implement and manage all departmental direct mail, telemarketing, ePhilanthropy and other types of integrated direct marketing campaigns as new fundraising technology is introduced (excluding event solicitations).
- Develop and administer direct marketing budget, in conjunction with direct marketing consultants.
- Test potential new ways to execute effective direct marketing campaigns.
- Oversee ePhilanthropy activities, working with consultants, Education EPA and Database staff.
- Responsible for ensuring analysis and evaluation of all direct marketing activities is completed regularly and that the results are implemented in subsequent campaigns.
- Provide regular oral and written reports and information regarding the direct marketing campaign to Director of Development.
- Work closely with Director of Development and direct marketing consultants to provide strategic planning for program.
- Coordinate the creation of all mail and segmentation plans for fundraising campaigns.
- Supervise and / or implement all creative work including package development and copywriting for the direct marketing program.
- Work with list broker(s) and direct marketing consultant(s) on developing list plans for donor acquisition mailings
- Ensure that the merge/purge for Acquisition mailings is done effectively to minimize the chance of members receiving mail, or of us sending mail to people who have asked us not to send them any.
- Work with the Director of Major Gifts, Director of Development and other appropriate staff to develop and create letters and list strategy to aid in the solicitation and cultivation of Major Donors for at least six major donor mailings each year.
- As needed, work with outside consultants or EPA staff to develop cultivation materials.
- Provide advice on mailings throughout the department, and throughout Lambda Legal, as required.
DATABASE OVERSIGHT
- Oversee database team to ensure both offline and online databases are up-to-date and that information provided to staff and volunteers is accurate.
- Works closely with Database and Development Staff to ensure accuracy in gift and constituent coding in online (Convio) and offline (Raiser’s Edge) databases.
- Performs regular evaluation of the database’s and data entry team’s efficiency to meet Development or Administration & Finance (A&F) Department needs
- Works with Events Director to ensure accuracy in recording event gifts and tracking their related benefits, including tickets and non-deductible values in the Raiser’s Edge Events Module
- Act as point person and approve list request for the Impact circulation.
OTHER
- As appropriate or assigned, work well independently, and as a member of the Development or special projects teams.
- Serve as Department point person on all web and email activities.
- Serve as a key member on the interdepartmental Marketing Committee led by EPA
- Undertake special projects, as assigned by management.
JOB REQUIREMENTS :
- College degree
- Three or more years of database and / or direct mail experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Detail-oriented
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Computer proficiency in fund development software helpful (i.e. Excel, Raiser’s Edge, Convio etc.)
