Empire State Pride Agenda – New York

The Empire State Pride Agenda is New Yorks statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights and advocacy organization. Our mission is to win equality and justice for LGBT New Yorkers and our families. As part of our work, the Pride Agenda coordinates the New York State LGBT Health and Human Services Network (the Network), a coalition of over 50 non-profit, community-based organizations providing non-HIV LGBT health and human services across the state.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Development leads the Development program and manages all aspects of the teams work to raise resources required for the operations of the Empire State Pride Agenda, Inc., a 501(c)(4), and the Empire State Pride Agenda Foundation, a 501(c)(3). Sources of income include major donors, foundations, special events, corporations and individual giving. The full-time Director of Development will lead a Development team of three.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and successful implementation of annual fundraising strategy in order to meet and exceed budgeted income goals.
  • Manage development staff and provide strategic oversight for the Development Department.
  • Lead the teams strategy for donor procurement, including implementing best practices for direct mail, donor solicitation and follow-up.
  • Oversee data processing, acknowledgement and invoicing processes to ensure best practices in maintenance and quality of donor records, event registrations, etc.
  • Present performance reports to the Board of Directors and its relevant committees.
  • Engage members of the Board of Directors strategically to participate in fundraising.
  • Serve as a member of the senior management team overseeing the organizations operations.
  • Write and edit content to be used for event invitation and journals, direct mail solicitations, institutional grants, newsletters and other important fundraising avenues.
  • Raise the bar on the organizations current fundraising strategies with creative ideation to take us to the next level.


Major Donor Solicitation and Stewardship

  • Conduct major donor solicitations, where appropriate, and keep donors informed of important developments.
  • Create opportunities to enhance relationships with major donors and guide the strategy for renewing and upgrading donors to major donors and identifying new channels for donor development.
  • Execute Political Action Committee (PAC) fundraising campaign in election years.
  • Provide ongoing training and support for Board members in major gifts work.

Special Events
  • Lead special event strategy and identify new opportunities for enhancing the organizations signature events including evaluating the potential for alternative revenue streams.
  • Work with individual event committees to meet and exceed revenue goals while maximizing attendance for each event.
  • Develop and implement strategy to secure sponsorships and sell general tickets for all special events.
  • Strong oversight of event expenses to maximize cost per dollar raised.

Individual Giving
  • Develop, manage and implement a multi-channel individual giving program.
  • Expand online fundraising campaigns and identify new digital and email fundraising opportunities.
  • Create and implement a recruitment plan to continue to grow the Pride Agendas monthly giving program, GEM.
  • Plan new and creative approaches to soliciting new donors.

Institutional Giving
  • Identify and secure corporate and foundation grants.
  • Continue to steward current foundation funders and ensure the submission of timely and accurate reports to funders.
  • Identify new partners to increase corporate support.
  • Manage the submission, reporting and execution of all government contracts.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree with a minimum of five years experience in developing measurably successful fundraising for a nonprofit organization, preferably in New York or equivalent experience.
  • Proven track record of successful fundraising work, including direct work with major donors and securing and managing institutional grants.
  • Experience working closely with Boards of Directors.
  • A professional background that includes donor cultivation.
  • Staff supervision and management experience; budgeting and planning abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working with donors, board members, volunteers and senior staff.
  • Superb organizational skills; detail oriented with strong follow-through and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience developing successful written donor communications.
  • A demonstrated commitment, competency and strong familiarity with issues affecting transgender and gender non-conforming New Yorkers.
  • Computer proficiency, including list/database management.
  • Familiarity with Raisers Edge.
  • Must be able to lead effectively, work independently and also be a team player.
  • Passion for the mission of the Pride Agenda.
