Two Day Queer Media Festival

(GayWebSource.com - Gay News & Press Network) - Posted by Jake Simpson - TheGayUK.com The annual Festival is part of QUEER CONTACT a 10 day Festival of events celebrating LGBT History Month in Manchester. It is two days of successful LGBT media professionals and gifted amateurs sharing their work and encouraging others to follow their own dreams of working in the field. The Saturday chat show style day will be hosted by filmmaker Mike Bounaiuto (‘Credence’) and journalist Aashi Gahlot (Editor of SHOR LGBT online portal). Amongst the short films being screened will be actor/writer/director Jake Braff’s third movie ‘BRACE’ a highly-spirited well produced drama that pack a lot into its 30 minutes as it skillfully deals with acceptance, rejection, prejudice and deception and queer identity. Braff will be in attendance to do a Q & A session too. There will also be discussions and conversations with over 20 guests who work in the media who will tell their own stories and pass on tips on how to get your first big break. They include journalist Anna McVay (Arts Editor of Diva Magazine), filmmaker Rikki Beadle Blair (writer/director of Metrosexuality and Bashment) transgender vlogger Alex Bertie (TheRealJazzBertie on YouTube) and transmedia storyteller Jan Libby (http://www.storeees.com) Whilst the festival is underway across the city at the TV studios in MediaCityUK will be the newsroom of Queer Agenda, a maverick underground queer news round-up whose pilot episode will be broadcast live at the Queer Media Festival later that day. Students and LGBT journalists will be working together throughout the day to put together a news round up through a queer perspective. A behind the scenes documentary film crew will follow the trials and tribulations of the news team, as they aim to get Queer Agenda produced and broadcast in one day. The following day, Sunday 8th February, at 10 am there will be The Breakfast Club at Taurus (Canal Street) where people can meet the speakers from the previous day, but breakfast and network.
