Responsible for ensuring that GLSEN continues to provide high quality leadership programs and opportunities for LGBT and ally youth in K-12 schools, where they build the capacity to impact their schools, communities and the larger safe schools movement. This position resides in GLSEN’s Education and Youth Programs Department and will primarily focus on growing GLSEN’s national and local student leadership programs and engaging youth in our work, including LGBT youth of color, Trans youth and youth in rural communities.

Youth Programs Manager GLSEN Responsibilities:
  • Guide the development, implementation and growth of GLSEN’s national and local student leadership programs: develop program guides, manuals, training materials and webinars; support local youth and adult leaders and teams from our national Chapter network; track and analyze impact data
  • Develop and lead GLSEN’s National Student Council, a diverse group of student leaders from across the country who lend a student voice/perspective to the organization and provide input on our programs, policies and practices
  • Increase opportunities for LGBT and ally students to engage in GLSEN programs and build leadership skills
  • Identify and engage national partner organizations and experts to increase the depth, breadth and impact of GLSEN student leadership programs
  • Represent GLSEN at national conferences and events
  • Support additional department projects and programs, as needed
Required Skills:
  • M.A. degree in a relevant field and at least three to five years of direct experience working in youth development, or a B.A./B.S. and equivalent work experience
  • Experience developing and managing youth programs (regional or national experience a plus)
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with diverse constituents and communities
  • Strong knowledge of youth development principals and best practices
  • Facilitation/training experience a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of LGBT issues in schools and intersectionality of identities
  • Commitment to social justice and youth development
  • Ability to work in a face-paced, team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with diverse groups
  • Exceptional attention to detail and consistency in follow-up
  • Working knowledge of social media, website CMS and constituent database software
  • Willingness to travel several times per year
This position will be located in GLSEN’s New York City headquarters
