The International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission is looking to expand its community and build its online profile at a critical time for the global LGBTI movement and as the organization marks its 25 th anniversary year.
As it launches a new visual brand and website to raise its global profile, IGLHRC is seeking to fill a Digital Communications Manager position with a talented individual who can help build support for the global movement through digital content.
We seek an individual with demonstrated accomplishments in digital communications and a commitment to social change and the human rights of LGBTI people worldwide. We are looking for a minimum of 2 years experience developing and implementing digital strategies with a demonstrated impact growing online communities.
Digital Communications Manager
Founded in 1990 and with expertise, connections and experience gained over decades of advocacy, IGLHRC fights to protect and advance LGBTI dignity and human rights as part of the global human rights movement.
Working directly with our partners, grass-roots organizations around the world, we provide expertise, experience and a network of relationships to help our partners do their best work and to empower the global movement for change.
The Digital Communications Manager is responsible for managing the online presence of IGLHRC to build recognition worldwide for LGBTI rights through social media.
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the position works closely with staff across the organization (in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East and North Africa) and with LGBTI activists worldwide to promote IGLHRC’s digital messages and social media presence. The Digital Communications Manager is a key part of the Communications team and must demonstrate initiative, creativity, judgment and a passion for human rights and social justice.
Responsibilities:
- The Digital Communications Manager, working with the Communications Director, will coordinate IGLHRC’s effort to develop a strategic digital communications/marketing plan, to promote the work of the organization and our regional/local partners in the digital marketplace.
- Uses the latest digital tools to keep IGLHRC’s profile and messaging fresh and vital in all social channels.
- Creates visually arresting infographics to drive IGLHRC’s campaigning work, raise awareness of threats against LGBTI people worldwide and educate the public about our cause.
- Works with program staff to help identify key topics for the IGLHRC blog.
- Creates and edits short videos for IGLHRC and its campaigns and for public education.
- Monitors and responds online in real time to developments impacting LGBTI people worldwide.
- Advises staff on digital and social media best practices
- Develops and maintains an organizational calendar.
- Uses judgment to curate and share information related to the human rights of LGBT communities worldwide
- Analyzes performance of organizational social media presence and uses data to inform strategy
- Works with the Communications Director to create and implement effective online campaigns and actions to promote LGBTI rights globally and to mobilize IGLHRC’s global constituency to act in support of these issues
- Provides assistance to Communications Director in relation to publications and media work, as needed, including editing and disseminating press releases, online updates, blog posts, and op-eds
- Monitors and tracks IGLHRC’s media presence through Cision.
- Proofreads communications outputs
- Collaborates with Web Designer to:
- Upload content to IGLHRC’s website and create appropriate graphics to accompany content to encourage social media engagement
- Produce and distribute email campaigns
- Implement online fundraising campaigns
- Collaborates on fundraising:
- Manage constituents in SalesForce and MailChimp
- Manage Google AdWords
- Promote events and giving opportunities
- Coordinate email dissemination schedule
- Provides technical assistance for live video streaming of events
- Manages technology used for online communications;
- Occasionally photographs or video records events and gatherings
- Maintains organizational photo archive
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Minimum of two years of experience in social media management, proficiency expanding an online community.
- Excellent organizational, management, writing, and proofreading skills
- Creative thinker and someone who is comfortable working in a fast paced environment
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Excellent writing skills
- Proficient filming, lighting and video editing skills.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently, be a dependable team player.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, knowledge of Google Docs, HTML, MailChimp, Drupal, and Photoshop
- Strong knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media outlets as tools for social change, for individual donor cultivation, event promotion
- Strong problem solving and decision making skills
