The Assistant Director of Development will play a leadership role in an organization at the epicenter of work for full civil rights for the LGBT and HIV-positive community. As part of a seven-person development team during a time of tremendous growth and opportunity, the Assistant Director will create and facilitate growth by overseeing: (1) the acquisition and renewal of mid-level and other identified donors; (2) the supervision and engagement of select development staff; (3) direct response and electronic mail programs; (4) foundation fundraising; (5) corporate engagement and relations; (6) database functionalities; and (7) special events. The Assistant Director will also maintain an individual portfolio of donors as the primary relationship manager and assist the Director of Development in departmental strategic planning and staff management.
Qualifications

The successful candidate will have 4 or more years of development experience with a demonstrated track record in the following areas: staff supervision, engagement, and motivation; growing small and mid-level donors; direct solicitation and closing of gifts; oversight and execution of “moves and relationship management programs;” special events; direct response mail; on-line giving; foundation and corporate relations; and the strategic use of social media in fundraising. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational and planning skills, facility in written and oral communication, and strong leadership skills to bring to a team-oriented environment. Demonstrated ability to work with other departments – namely Public Affairs and Education, Finance, and Legal ̶ and ability to take initiative and follow-through on implementation in a fast-paced environment is a must. Computer proficiency, fundraising database skills (Raisers Edge preferred), attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines, set priorities, and maintain confidentialities are also critical. Knowledge of, and familiarity with, the New England area and lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender and HIV issues and organizations is preferred. Ability and willingness to travel in New England required.

Responsibilities –
  • Assist the Director of Development in setting fundraising priorities, meeting financial goals, and carrying out development objectives and priorities for entire organization.
  • Manage, supervise, and motivate special events, foundation, and database staff.
  • Provide leadership and guidance in developing a strategic and integrated approach (including use of electronic and social media platforms) to increase GLAD’s annual fund strategies for mid-level donors, direct response and electronic mail, personal solicitations, corporate relations, and special events.
  • Manage a portfolio of low and mid-level donors with tracking through a moves management program and as a relationship manager.
  • Take a leadership role in identifying, acquiring, cultivating and stewarding GLAD Partners at the $500 – $5,000 level using mail, phone and personal solicitations. Coordinate Board, volunteer, and staff phone calls and solicitations.
  • Identify new donors and engagement opportunities for current donors (of any level) to increase funding.
  • Strategize and implement ways to engage young professionals.
  • In consultation with the Director of Development, plan and engage in solicitation, cultivation, recognition, and stewardship of donors at all levels.
  • Analyze, plan, design, and direct electronic and social media fundraising strategies.
  • Oversee and guide special events with a focus on leadership sponsors. Ensure strategic use of events to identify, cultivate, and steward donors at all levels.
  • Ensure that internal systems run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Participate in strategic planning for the development department.
