Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth (LIGALY) has an immediate opening for a Center Family Project Coordinator to oversee the Long Island LGBT Foster Care Project and the delivery of support, advocacy, and social programming for LGBT families. The Center Family Project Coordinator reports to the Director of Youth and Family Services.

Center Family Project Coordinator

Center Family Project Coordinator Principal Duties and Responsibilities The Center Family Project Coordinator will:
  • Provide oversight of the Center Family Initiative including the Long Island LGBT Foster Care Project
  • Provide support services and programs to parents and families
  • Provide support and advocacy services to couples and individuals interested in becoming parents through surrogacy, insemination, fostering, and adoption
  • Coordinate and deliver parenting and parenthood planning workshops to current and prospective parents;
  • Coordinate networking opportunities and family play days for LGBT families, including LGBT-headed families, foster and adoptive families, and couples looking to start families
  • Identify opportunities for program development to increase program impact and effectiveness.
  • Conduct outreach to a range of health and human service providers to establish and/or develop partnerships.
  • Represent LIGALY and The Long Island LGBT Network at relevant community events and collaborative committees
  • Attend and present at trainings and conferences as appropriate
  • Assist with data collection and reporting
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required, Masters degree in social work or related field preferred;
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working in the human services field;
  • Commitment to and knowledge of the LGBT community;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • The ability to respond sensitively to the needs of parents and families;
  • Proficiency with computer skills such as Microsoft Word and Excel; and
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Other Requirements
  • Flexible work schedule a must, as this position requires working nights and weekends;
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver license as this position will require travel throughout Long Island;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range of people and flexibility;
  • Strong organizational skills for handling multiple tasks at once.
Compensation Commensurate with experience.
