CEO Harlem United Community AIDS Centers
Harlem United Community AIDS Center, Inc. a nonprofit, client-centered service provider in New York City, seeks a Chief Executive Officer. Harlem United was founded in 1988 as a nonprofit organization to provide assistance and housing to persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). Since then, Harlem United has expanded its services and now operates as a fully integrated, patient-centered medical home for underserved communities, including PLWHA, the homeless, communities of color, and the LGBT community, among others. Harlem United’s mission is to provide full access to high-quality health care and social services for clients experiencing multiple and complex issues, such as mental illness, chronic substance use, homelessness, HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses, extreme poverty, and social stigma related to sexuality and gender identity. Harlem United provides a unique continuum of care. It integrates socially and economically disenfranchised people into a healthy and healing community, offering clients access to a full range of medical, social, and supportive services.
Harlem United is seeking a dynamic, forward-looking Chief Executive Officer with a passion for its mission, a devotion to its clients’ welfare, and outstanding organizational, community, and sector leadership. Working closely with the agency’s Board of Directors, the CEO will provide strategic and entrepreneurial vision, effective development and execution of plans and programs to implement that vision, strong operational and fiscal oversight, a keen understanding of and ability to navigate the rapidly changing healthcare delivery and financing system and regulatory environment, and a firm commitment to the agency’s compliance obligations.
As spokesperson for Harlem United, the CEO will be a passionate and persuasive advocate for the organization and its policy objectives, nurture relationships with funders and community leaders, and connect easily to the political and governance processes important to the agency’s future.
The CEO will have the ability and commitment needed to collaborate with and develop a resourceful Board of Directors, to sustain a strong and collaborative executive team, to nurture emerging leaders elsewhere in the organization, and to mentor and engage staff at all levels so that they grow professionally. The CEO will implement a Triad Management Model, which the Board has adopted, that leads to quality programmatic outcomes.
The Board is seeking a diverse, talented pool of candidates and has engaged the national executive search firm of Isaacson, Miller. All nominations, applications and letters of inquiry should be addressed to Tim McFeeley and Karla Saunders at www.imsearch.com/5145.
