The Empire State Pride Agenda is New York’s statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights and advocacy organization. Our mission is to win equality and justice for LGBT New Yorkers and our families. As part of our work, the Pride Agenda coordinates the New York State LGBT Health and Human Services Network (“the Network”), a coalition of over 50 non-profit, community-based organizations providing non-HIV LGBT health and human services across the state.

Job Description:

Based in either Albany or New York City, the Director of Programs will have primary responsibility for oversight of all Pride Agenda activities related to the administration, support and budgeting of the statewide Health and Human Services Network, including coordination of Pride Agenda staff members who perform these duties. The Director of Programs will also be the staff member primarily responsible for institutionally-supported programmatic work of the Empire State Pride Agenda Foundation. This includes management of multiple projects with varied milestones, targets, and reporting mechanisms. Duties include:

  • In consultation with Pride Agenda management and the Network, creating and maintaining a vision and work plan for the Network and establishing and monitoring activities to achieve its goals
  • Directly supervising the Network Coordinator and the Pride Agenda’s education and technical assistance consultant
  • In consultation with the Pride Agenda’s Director of Finance and Administration and Director of Development, creating and monitoring Network budgets, and complying with reporting requirements of funders
  • Creating and implementing advocacy plans with supporting advocacy materials for securing governmental funding for the Network and its organizations from streams including legislative discretionary funding and competitive agency funding
  • Along with the Pride Agenda’s education and technical assistance consultant, coordinating technical assistance projects of Network members (e.g. trainers and consultants for organizational development, purchasing of administrative software, etc.)
  • Along with the Network Coordinator, attending, facilitating and following up on the Network’s regular monthly meetings
  • In consultation with the Pride Agenda Communications Department and along with the Network Coordinator and the Pride Agenda’s education and technical assistance consultant, creating and distributing the Network’s Annual report to government officials
  • Along with the Network Coordinator, conducting site visits to Network member organizations across New York State
  • Acting as a Network liaison on LGBT cultural competency technical assistance with state agencies and other LGBT issue advocacy with state agencies
  • Providing Senior Operations Team staff support to the LGBT Health and Human Services Network
  • Lead the Pride Agenda’s efforts to conduct a statewide needs assessment of the LGBT community, including policy analysis and writing comprehensive policy recommendations
  • Oversee the organization’s Pride in my Workplace program, including trainings and educational opportunities with employers in NYC, including completion of pre and post test surveys
  • Working closely with the Government Affairs staff, advance data collection efforts for LGBT residents in NYC, ensuring expansion of recently announced statewide data collection efforts
  • Working closely with the Organizing staff to develop a TransAction Tool Kit for organizations seeking to serve transgender youth
  • Working with the Development Department to identify and procure new funding mechanisms for the work of the Empire State Pride Agenda Foundation
  • Representing the Pride Agenda at fundraisers, receptions, and other networking events statewide
  • Participating in general organizing and advocacy activities of the Empire State Pride Agenda
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human service field required, Master’s degree in Public Health, Public Administration or related field strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success in nonprofit program management
  • Familiarity with New York State’s budgeting process, state agencies and state legislative process
  • Commitment to the mission of the Pride Agenda
  • Ability to provide leadership and motivate community-based organizations that comprise the Network
  • Ability to think strategically and work independently
  • Experience and interest in developing and managing budgets
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a large campaign
  • Supervisory skills and/or experience
  • Excellent listening , communication, writing and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer proficiency
  • Experience working for coalitions/associations a plus, particularly in membership services and meetings planning
