The LGBT Program Coordinator is a member of the Office of the Dean of Students’ team and will assist in providing leadership for University initiatives and support services that enhance the student experience and promote the personal development and academic success of undergraduate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual students at the University of Delaware.
Under the general direction of the Assistant Dean of Students, the LGBT Program Coordinator will collaborate with other offices to develop programs that enhance the quality of student life, promote diversity and inclusion, and respond to student concerns. The LGBT Program Coordinator is an advocate for the undergraduate LGBT community and will contribute to efforts to promote the development of cultural competence on the part of members of the campus community through its oversight of the LGBT Ally program. The LGBT Program Coordinator is expected to be available to staff and students outside regular business hours, for evening and weekend events, or other critical times.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:- Create a safe environment in which to serve as a referral source and provide consultation as needed to undergraduate students regarding LGBT topics and/or issues.
- Coordinate and maintain the LGBT Ally Program by developing and creating initiatives and programming for volunteers.
- Provide support and collaborate with HAVEN, UD’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersexual, Asexual and Allies (LGBTQQIAA) student-run Registered Student Organization by attending meetings and programs presented by the group.
- Build strategic and collaborative partnerships with University departments and programs in support of LGBT undergraduate students (including Residence Life & Housing, Student Wellness & Health Promotion, Student Health Services, the Office of Equity and Inclusion, the Center for Counseling & Student Development, and the LGBT Faculty Caucus).
- Work collaboratively with the Division of Enrollment Management and other University departments to recruit LGBT students and provide services to assist LGBT undergraduate students to thrive and persist to graduation at the University.
- Recommend and participate in the development of University policies and procedures for LGBT students.
- Participate in professional development and growth opportunities in order to maintain current knowledge of student development and student learning research, theory and practice that best serve the needs of LGBT students.
- Participate in projects and work that advances the general work of the Office of the Dean of Students.
- Represent the Office of the Dean of Students on campus wide committees and projects.
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of 1743 Welcome Days and Parents & Family Weekend in conjunction with and under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Students.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in higher education, gender or sexuality studies, student personnel, counseling services or other related field required; or Bachelor’s degree with three years post-bachelor’s professional experience working in a position with responsibilities similar to the LGBT Program Coordinator required.
- Experience working with LGBT students in a college environment.
- Familiarity with sexual orientation, gender identity, and college student learning and development theories.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to issues related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression and their intersections with gender, race, class, ability, and other identities.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to build positive and effective relationships with colleagues and student leaders across the university.
- Ability to take initiative for projects and development of services.
- Ability to collaborate and work successfully in a team environment.
