The Outreach and Education Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing and participating in community outreach and education activities; and providing project support to Fenway Health’s office of Government Relations related to its participation in national and local LGBTQ community organizations and projects.
Must be available to work nights and weekends, as required.
Outreach and Education Specialist Fenway Health
Primary responsibilities include: supporting the implementation of community outreach and engagement efforts for all Fenway Community Health Center sites; participating in outreach in area neighborhoods and the larger community including schools, community organizations, and LGBTQ groups; building relationships with other community outreach staff and LGBT organizations; supporting the coordination of community outreach and engagement efforts across Fenway departments and programs; documenting and reporting all engagement activities; supporting activities related to our participation in national LGBTQ coalitions; maintaining and widening relationships with city, state and federal offices; and supporting the development of resource lists for political and social issues affecting the health centers, LGBT populations, community based primary care and HIV programs and services.
Additional responsibilities include: assisting in the day-to-day tasks of outreach planning and implementation; responding to community speaking or presentation requests; supporting to reach out to the diverse communities that comprise the LGBTQ community, including young people, older people and racial, ethnic and sexual minority persons; and supporting initiatives to improve patient retention in care. Requirements- BA degree in related field, related college coursework e.g. in health marketing, health education and one year of related experience or 3 years of direct experience in community organizing and/or outreach experience
- Experience with service delivery
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to diverse communities, particularly communities of color and LGBTQ communities
- Knowledge and/or experience working within LGBTQ communities in Boston and the surrounding areas is required
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Ability to meet deadlines within a team environment
- Bilingual language skills in English/Spanish a plus
- Experience with MS Office software (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
