Futures Group’s Health Practice implements donor-funded projects globally and has a long history of leadership in gender, gender sensitization training, programs and evaluations to address gender-based violence, and gender inclusion. Most recently, Futures Group developed and implemented a training curriculum in 40 beneficiary countries and regions to raise awareness of LGBT issues and the situation of sexual minorities for the State Department and the PEPFAR program staff.
Futures Group is seeking a Senior Gender Advisor for the Washington, D.C., office. The successful candidate will continue this path of leadership, and will provide direction and content to gender programs globally including gender equity, gender-based violence, male engagement in reproductive health and HIV, sexual and gender inclusion, and specific programs for women and girls. Responsibilities require knowledge of U.S. foreign assistance policies and state-of-the-art approaches to gender in health and development programming. Significant portions of the time of the incumbent will be covered by a large multi-country global program, but other work will be directed to the Center for Policy and Advocacy, and to business development.
Senior Gender Advisor
Key Responsibilities
• Provides collaborative leadership and participates in the design and implementation of gender projects and gender-related components of projects
• Stays abreast of gender-related innovative technical approaches as well as guidance from the US government and communicates the strategies and approaches to implement the guidance broadly within the company and with our implementing partners
• Identifies new and original ways to increase the value of Futures Group’s gender program; Prepares gender analyses, recommendations, analyses, and assessments for internal and client use. Leads the growth of a gender practice across GRM Futures Group.
• Supervises staff assigned to gender projects
• Represents the projects, company, and programs in gender area with others in the professional community and in countries of collaboration independent of technical supervision
• Conducts all work to accepted standards of research ethics
• Contributes to the learning environment within GRM Futures Group
• Participates in the preparation of bids and proposals in response to government, foundation or other donor solicitation
• Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:• International stature as a gender expert.
• Significant experience in gender analysis in the context of international development and foreign affairs
• Advanced degree in social or political science
• Fluency in English required and one other language preferred
• Sound knowledge of methodologies used in gender research and evaluation
• Knowledge of relevant literature related to topic area
• Appropriate computer skills necessary to conduct research and evaluation projects, and to conduct analysis of study data
• Strong written and oral communication skills for high-level policy audiences
• Ability to work in a high-functioning team environment
• Ability and willingness to travel and implement studies on a national and international basis
