The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) is a dynamic non-profit organization working to expand the economic opportunities of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) owned businesses.
The NGLCC is seeking a Fellow to support the Supplier Diversity Initiative in expanding economic opportunities for LGBT owned businesses. The position will start in September 2014 and is designed to attract and retain a student or recent graduate for one to two semesters. The Supplier Diversity Fellow will support the NGLCC supplier diversity team and will gain significant experience. NGLCC’s goal is to encourage the development of a young professional interested in promoting LGBT inclusion within corporate and federal procurement and supplier diversity programs.
Supplier Diversity Fellowship
The Supplier Diversity Fellow will:
- Gain understanding of the LGBT business movement, especially in the realm of supplier diversity and corporate procurement
- Meet and interact with corporate procurement decision-makers as well as LGBT business owners and entrepreneurs
- Assist in marketing the benefits of program participation to NGLCC constituencies
- Draft correspondence and communications to supplier audiences
- Work with the NGLCC Supplier Diversity team to expand reach and capacity of Certification Committees
- Schedule appointments for departmental staff and other administrative duties as assigned
- Develop strong knowledge of small business management
- Develop educational communications for constituents
- Assist with management and promotion of NGLCC supplier database
Details and Requirements:
- The fellowship is structured to last the duration of one or two university semesters with flexibility to accommodate academic schedules
- Commitment of approximately 35 hours per week required
- Experience in Salesforce (recommended but not required)
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
- Compensation will be in the form of a monthly stipend
- Applicant should demonstrate strong attention to detail, effective written and oral communication skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ability to take initiative, experience working on a team, and a proven record of impeccable customer service
