The Theater Offensive’s mission is to present the diversity of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer lives in art so bold it breaks through personal isolation, challenges the status quo and builds thriving communities. True Colors: Out Youth Theater uses a proven community-based theater approach to train and inspire LGBTQ and allied youth leaders. The majority of participants are youth of color from urban neighborhoods ages 14-22. True Colors youth leaders work with The Theater Offensive to develop comprehensive True Colors programming that engages each participant deeply in the organization’s mission. Programs include:

True Colors Troupe engages youth of all experience levels ages 14-22 in year-round theater training to create, produce and tour original shows to schools, community groups and social service agencies.

True Colors Creative Action Crew is an ensemble of experienced youth leaders ages 14-29 that deliver workshops and performances to expand the reach of True Colors.

True Colors Leadership and Inclusion Council is a group of peer-elected youth leaders ages 14-29 that guides The Theater Offensive on youth-related matters and program development.

True Colors Studio offers youth ages 14-29 a full range of workshops and classes that build

proficiency in theater-related skills. Within the True Colors Studio, youth of any experience level choose, based on their interests, to participate in any monthly Open Workshop. Also within the Studio, True Colors Troupe alumni are eligible to take part in weekly Advanced Training classes.

Youth Programs Manager Position Description

The Youth Programs Manager, supervised by the Director of Programs, will provide administrative and youth work support for all True Colors programming. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Outreach, hire, contract and supervise a team of 18-20 lead teaching artists, directors and guest artists for weekly classes and monthly workshops
  • Identify, recruit and/or enroll a diverse group of LGBTQ and allied students o Gather youth input on workshop topics
  • Organize final showcase work at the end of each semestero Oversee program budgets
  • Book and manage touring schedule
  • Produce print materials including recruitment flyers, booking outreach packets and programs books
  • Research and organize field trips for youth participants to attend professional productions in Boston, with a focus on productions with relevant subject matter (youth, LGBTQ issues, social justice, etc.)
  • Provide resources, mentorship and youth worker support to participant youth
  • Act as Adult Adviser to the Leadership & Inclusion Councilo Administer evaluations to and synthesize data from all participant youth, teaching artists and guests artists
  • Collaborate with other True Colors staff and interns
  • Teaching opportunities may be available, depending on professional teaching experience
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years youth program coordination or theater arts administration required P
  • Previous work experience with LGBT community and Communities of Color required
  • Previous experience implementing arts programs with youth and young adults ages 14 – 29
  • Proven track record of program planning, management and oversight, including guest artist hires, contracting and payments
  • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Self-starter who is comfortable in a close-knit team-oriented setting
  • Strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to travel and work frequent nights and weekends
  • Current driver’s license preferred
  • Familiarity with Boston area communities and schools, a plus
  • Previous experience in theater curriculum development and implementation, a plus
  • Youth Work Certification, a plus
  • Bi-lingual English-Spanish, a plus
