The Hull LGBT+ Community Pride team is delighted to announce that the countdown to ‘Pride In Hull 2015’ has begun!

by Newsdesk | 21st July 2014

Exactly one year from from Saturday 18 July 2015 the first of a new style Pride event will take place in Hull city centre at a location to be announced.

The free event will feature a colourful parade representing all areas of the LGBT+ community, their friends, families and supporters along with those who just believe in equality for all.

The family-friendly daytime event will feature main stage performers supported by stalls and displays by organisations that support the LGBT+ community. The afternoon will develop into an amazing, DJ based, evening event.

Andy Train, Pride in Hull spokesperson, said: ‘The Pride In Hull team is comprised of a Chair and a group of Trustees who are delivering the event with charitable aims on a not for profit basis. With our Hull City Council and Hull Carnival Arts partners, we are already working on plans for 2017 when Hull will be the UK City of Culture.’

Although there won’t be a Pride In Hull event in 2014, the team will have a big presence at other events in Hull and the surrounding areas over the next 12 months. This will include supporting other local pride events in Doncaster on 16 August and Grimsby on 30 August.

The team will also be getting involved with the 2014 Freedom Festival which will have a ‘World of Colour’ theme, so expect plenty of rainbows on display!

Andy said: “We’re often asked whether pride events are still necessary, but the pride movement isn’t about people shouting about how proud they are to be LGBT+, it’s about saying that they aren’t ashamed.

He continued: ‘We believe that when LGBT+ people can walk down the street in any major city in the UK, feeling free to be themselves without fear of verbal or physical abuse, that will be when we don’t need pride events anymore. Until then, we will continue to hold an event that provides a safe space and challenges prejudices.’
