Just say the name ‘Whitney Paige’ to anyone who’s been to a gay club in North Texas, and they’ll probably know who you’re talking about. The Dallas/Fort Worth Drag Diva was known as “the Eyes of Texas.” Whitney Paige was the show director at the Rainbow Lounge in Fort Worth, and she won countless local, regional, and national awards.
Just a few of her accomplishments: Miss Gay USofA at Large in 1997, Miss Texas Entertainer of the Year 2004-2005, Miss All-American Goddess At-Large 2012, and Miss Continental Plus 2013. Paige had a long history of award-winning performances.
Sadly, Tuesday news broke that she lost her battle to pancreatic cancer.
Paige (AKA Darryle Kendrick) has lived in Dallas for more than two decades. She grew up in Tennessee. Funeral arrangements are still being made.
On Sunday, the Rainbow Lounge just held a fundraiser to help Whitney Paige in her fight against the cancer.
The gay community is in mourning today. Just a few of the online reactions:
