The Ali Forney Center (AFC) is hiring on-call, part-time and full-time youth counselors for our Housing Programs. AFC provides residential services to homeless/unstably housed LGBT young people ages 16-24, in supportive, LGBT-affirming environments. Primary responsibilities include: maintaining a safe space, providing crisis counseling and mediation/conflict resolution as needed, facilitating groups and recreational activities and documentation of services.
Residential Youth Counselor
Please note: Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including overnight hours, weekends and holidays required. The overnight position is an awake position – sleeping is not permitted during the shift. Shifts are generally 12 hours in length. Sites are in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. Experience and understanding of LGBTQ youth culture and issues facing unstably housed young people required. Experience in a residential setting preferred. Fire Guard Certification a plus.
