Yeah, me and David Gandy…..the similarities are endless. Our innate beauty, the way clothes simple love us and hang off our sculpted bodies, the ability to fill a white D&G swimsuit, oh yes, and our dry skin.

Yup, David Gandy is the latest celebrity to be touted as using rose hip oil based products to help with dry skin….in his case brought on by jet travel…in mine by a bad diet and cheap plonk.
When I read the blurb, and was offered the chance to try this out, I jumped at the chance. I was given a bottle of Phytalotion and Phytaoil to try and the claims are quite impressive. Directions for use are simple – apply 3 times a day and see the results.
The oil and lotion are both designed to help reduce scars and stretch marks, and also help tone and moisturise ageing skin. These are impressive claims, and ones I was more than happy to test. I’ve suffered for quite a while from dry skin and most moisturisers will take care of it for a while but in these days of air conditioning everywhere, shops that warm you, air that chills, not to mention diet/drink and your skin takes a battering.
Phytalotion is wonderful to use, its not greasy, it smells wonderful and sinks straight in without leaving an oily sheen – the oil however does leave a greasy feeling but felt that it would be good to use after showering on more extreme areas, and had the same wonderful smell – hints of lavender always take me back to France!
Now we come to the issues – to help with the dry skin, you’re advised to apply 3 times a day. For most people, applying first thing and maybe last thing at night isn’t an issue. After all, you’re at home, its easy to do – but do you fancy carrying a bottle around and applying it at lunchtime? I don’t think I could be bothered to be honest. I’m the kind that buys vitamins and forgets they are there.
Also, I cant help thinking that applying a lotion 3 times a day, any lotion, would show results – wouldn’t it? So why buy this? I cant comment on its ability to treat stretch marks – honest. But it does feel good on your skin, it smells great and does cover dry skin well. It hasn’t made me look 10 years younger, but I’m a realist and dimly believe that I’ve earned this face – nothing would or will make me look younger, except surgery and who wants to look like Sharon Osborne or Joan Rivers.
Do a quick net search on this product. Go on……look at the results. There are some great reviews, some good feedback on it as a product, but……and theres always a but…..the majority I read as research for this stated some simple truths. It smells great but it “didn’t work for me”.
As for me and my trial? I used it twice a day – and by early afternoon my skin would be dry again. Maybe 3 times a day would be great but not an easy option for me and my lifestyle. Also, doesn’t it just mask or cover the issue? Surely, if you have an issue with dry skin, it makes more sense to either use a “more economical” cream or see your GP if its a more serious issue.
Personally, I’ll stick to my generic brand from the High Street – it may not smell so good, but it does the trick.
Available from www.phytacol.com/phytamen where Phytalotion is £9.99 for a 60ml and Phytaloil £10.99.
