‘PRIDE’ swooped up seven nominations for the prestigious BRITISH FILM INDEPENDENT AWARD.
An unprecedented achievement for a gay themed movie. Besides BEST PICTURE, Matthew Warcus was nominated for Best Director, Stephen Beresford for Best Screenplay, Imelda Staunton for Best Supporting Actress, Ben Schnetzer and Andrew Scott both for Best Supporting Actor, and Ben Schnetzer was also nominated for Most Promising Newcomer.
This hilarious warm and wonderful comedy about a group of gay activists who decide to help struggling miners during their lengthy strike in the summer of 1984 is a sheer joy and is still playing in cinemas across the country.
Other nominations announced yesterday include one for Best Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch for playing the closeted gay genius Alan Turing in The Imitation Game (also nominated for Best Film, Best Screenplay & Best Actress); Hong Khaou for Best Debut Director for the gay film ‘Lilting’ for which Cheng Pei Pe was also nominated for Best Actress.
The Winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on December 7th.
