“Today I will not seek re-election as Governor of Texas,” said Governor Rick Perry, during a news conference Monday afternoon.
For about 10 minutes, Perry ticked off a list of his accomplishments during his years as governor. He followed it with He’s been in office since 2000, when he took over for George W. Bush. His current term ends in 2014.
Perry has a long record of anti-gay policies. He championed the 2005 state constitutional amendment, which defines marriage as between one man and one woman.
“We have protected the sanctity of marriage,” Perry said, during the speech.
Perry did not say if he will run again for President in 2016.
He ended things with:
“God bless you, and God bless Texas.”
