After beating off stiff competition to win the BEST PICTURE AWARD at the prestigious British Independent Film Awards recently, the movIe PRIDE has today been nominated for a coveted GOLDEN GLOBE BEST PICTURE AWARD.
The ‘Globes’ which are the second highest Film Awards, which are voted on by the Hollywood Foreign Press, have a much better track record than the Oscars when it comes to recognising gay theme movies. In 2010 the Best Picture (Comedy) was Lisa Cholodenko’s excellent ‘THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT’ and in 2006 the Golden Globe for BEST PICTURE (Drama) was given to Ang Lee for the unforgettable ‘BROKEBACK M0UNTAIN’.
Benedict Cumberbatch was nominated for Best Actor for playing Alan Turing in ‘THE IMITATION GAME.’ Turing was a tortured soul who was the British genius who cracked the Enigma Code which shortened WW” and then was hounded to an early death for being gay. Cumberbatch ahs already received a Screen Actors Guild Nomination too, and looks like a dead cert for an Academy Award one too.
