The American Military Partner Association (AMPA), the nation’s premier resource and support network for LGBT military spouses and their families, released the following statement today in response to the release by the Hague Centre for Strategic Studies of the first-ever global index on LGBT inclusion in the Armed Forces, which ranked the United States at number 40 out of 103 countries.
“While it’s clear that we’ve come a long way over the last couple of years in making sure the men and women who serve our nation are judged by their ability to accomplish the mission rather than the gender of the person they love, there is still room for improvement in building command climates that value diversity and protect gay and lesbian service members from discrimination,” said Stephen Peters, president of AMPA. “There is also still much progress to be made for our service members who identify as transgender and are still barred from openly serving.”
